The 2nd movie is my 2nd favorite, but it never quite matches the spectacle of the opening scene, whereas the 4th film maintains it's momentum well. The 5th movie gets a lot of praise, but outside of the ending, I don't think it's as interesting to go through. The false endings also add a heightened sense of adventure, it almost reminds me of Harry Potter 3 and how the time travel that's introduced towards the end provides the audience with another go around the climax. The set up for a lot of the deaths are really well done, I think the scene in the hair salon is marvelously staged, from the intro of the groundskeeper smoking while he's pouring gas in his lawnmower tank, to the extremely close shots of her nails being done, lots of great false flags and potential micro-violence that makes it hard not to squirm. Compare it to the 5th movie which goes back to a dreary blue/gray hue and it's a pretty stark difference. Even the color palette of the movie fits the tone pretty well with it's loud colors and sunny atmosphere. It could be that i'm finding humor in something that is easy to view as badly done, but I think too much of it is too on the nose for it to be taken any other way (every character is a caricature). I think it stands out from the other movies in how overtly comedic it is, it reminds me a lot of the Piranha 3D in that regard.
